Fifth week
From Monday, October 26th to Friday, October 30th 2020
Agenda:
1. Greetings
2. Topic: What are algorithms?
3. Activity
Algorithms
What is an algorithm?
An algorithm is a detailed, step-by-step process followed in order to accomplish a specific task or to solve a specific problem. Computers don't understand your intentions, so if you don't specify that you need to get out the bowl first, you'll end up pouring milk on the floor!
We can define an algorithm by writing out the step-by-step instructions, thinking about things in terms of discrete steps. For example, our algorithm for a child's morning routine could be the following:

Start
- Wake up and turn off alarm
- Get dressed
- Eat breakfast
- Brush teeth
- Go to school
End
Make brownies
Directions
- Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.
- Step 2
In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan.
- Step 3
Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overcook.
- Step 4
To Make Frosting: Combine 3 tablespoons softened butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa, honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 cup confectioners' sugar. Stir until smooth. Frost brownies while they are still warm.
Let's practice:
Activity
Using Word, write down the algorithms for:
1. Algorithm: Going to the cinema
2. Algorithm: Charging your smartphone
3. Algorithm: Going to
Save the activity to your drive.
Agenda 2:
1. Greetings
2. Workbook activities from page 17 to 28
